KNOW WHAT YOU WANT
There are two reasons that cause a disconnect between what you want and what your
agent is showing you. The first is the agent isn’t listening. The second is that you aren’t
talking. This occurs more often than you’d think and the most prominent reason for this is
that, short of the basics (i.e. 3 bedroom, 2 bath, etc.), buyers haven’t really defined their end
goal themselves. Communication is paramount to any successful relationship and how can
anyone else know what you want if you are not sure yourself? Below are a few questions
that may help you to identify exactly what it is you want and need in your next home and, in
turn, it will help your agent to have a better understanding so you know they are making the
best use of your valuable time.
1.        Why are you moving?
2.        Where would you like to live?
3.        How long do you plan to live in your new home?
4.        Have your needs changed or will they be changing soon?
5.        How many will be living in your new home?
6.        What do you like about your current home?
7.        What do you not like about your current home?
8.        What do you want to be close to in the area?
9.        What do you want to avoid in the area?
10.      How much do you want to invest?
11.      Do you plan on financing or paying cash?
12.      How much are you setting aside for repairs and personalizing your new home?
13.      What style of home are you looking for?

MAKE UP YOUR LIST OF MUST HAVES; MUST NOT HAVES; WISH LIST.
This is a great way for you to have an at-a-glance view to carry and refer to while you are
out looking. It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of it all and sometimes it is helpful
have something around to keep you grounded so you remain confident that you are making
the right decision for you.

IF YOU ARE NOT FINDING SUCCESS…
If you have seen 4 or 5 houses and not yet found a place to call ‘Home’, review the answers
on your list and make any revisions. New items may come up and your priorities may need
adjusting now that you have a better understanding of what is available to you and where
you are willing to make compromises.
